One Week to Go!

As we start the one-week countdown, reality is beginning to hit that this is really happening.

Friends have already started their adventures this weekend, with WhatsApp messages flying around showing packing, loaded cars and the beginnings of university life.

We’re now firmly in the goodbye stages too. Catch-ups with girlfriends and their families, friends from college and drama groups – everyone seemingly feeling the same feels as us!

Following the big IKEA shop last week, we’ve had to make the decision to hire a van for next weekend. My little Peugeot, “Agy”, was just not going to cope with the vast amount of furniture, room stuff and food we seem to have accumulated. She’s not too dissimilar to a Tardis most of the time, but on this occasion, we knew she just wasn’t going to cut it!

So, next weekend we’ll be going on a road trip. In a Transit van. All three of us squeezed into the front.

I’m envisaging loud music, snacks and lots of chatter.

In reality, I suspect one or two of us will sleep the whole way there.

Other than the designated driver, of course!!

Before then, however, we need to see some movement in the bedroom-sort-out stage.

I’ve suggested that a couple of clothes washes might be necessary, and a mega sort-out of his desk is definitely required. I’m going to leave an open case in the spare room in the hope that it might prompt some actual packing.

And once the packing tape arrives – there is literally a citywide tape shortage, I kid you not! – boxes will be put together and I truly hope some decisions will finally be made about what’s going with him and what’s staying here.

I have a feeling this week is going to fly by.

There’s still washing to do, a bedroom to sort, boxes to pack and goodbyes to be said. And somewhere amongst all of that, I’m trying to take in the fact that this time next week, we’ll actually be doing it.

For now, though, I’m just about to take him off to his last work shift.

And then the packing fun properly begins!
